ELKHORN LEGION LADIES AUXILLARY

LEGION LADIES AUXILIARY

The Legion Ladies Auxiliary consists of a group that supports the men’s branch of the Royal Canadian Legion #58. Meetings are held at 1:30 in the upstairs hall of the Legion (4 Richhill Ave.) every third Wednesday except during July, August and December. New members are welcome—please join us!

For more information, contact President Kay Thompson at 204-845-2135.

Activities include assisting with three Remembrance Day Services—one at the Legion Hall on Nov. 11, one at the local K-12 school, held on a school day and one at the Elkwood Manor. The auxiliary also helps to sponsor the Remembrance Day poster and essay contest. Sing-alongs/activities are held with the Manor residents every couple of months. As well, we assist with the delivery to community members of “Meals on Wheels” that have been prepared by the local health facility.

Fundraisers include catering to funeral teas, and catering to community events, such as organizations’ Christmas meals and annual meetings. A monthly soup and sandwich luncheon is held during the winter months. Check posters and the Facebook page ‘Elkhorn Royal Canadian Legion Br. 58 Ladies Auxiliary’ for luncheon dates. Proceeds from these fundraisers are given to help the Legion branch with ongoing expenses, to help with prize money for the poster and essay contest, and to support charities and groups—many of them local, such as giving an award to a local graduate.
